reflection: slice of life

Tue August 03 2010

it’s still early. there are some sounds of play and chatter from upstairs. birds are singing outside. i can hear my washing machine, swirling already in the day. it’s mostly quiet here where i am.  i am thinking – reading about too many interests of mine. i worry. you see, it’s already August. i have those two girls with me every summer day. have i done enough with them? i’m their mother; i have to teach them life.  i think we’re doing that. regular life things, like how to be part of the family, being empathetic, how to pace yourself and how to find joy in things. should i take them to the playground more? should i push them to learn and practice more in the traditional way, in these warm and free summer days (well, as traditional as i can be)? i never know, i can’t decide.  i had great plans for us, and we’ve accomplished some of it, but not close to all of it.  in these suspended few moments of quiet, i can look around at all of us, and what i think is that i think we’re fine. i think… we shall find some joy today.                                                                                              xo

Welcome slicer!! Loved reading about you and your girls. As summer is passing me by I have had some of the same thoughts. Welcome again and hope to see you next week!

I hope that you enjoy what is left of your summer. I could relate to your post because it reminds me how I feel with vacations (and weekends during the school year).

the worries of parenthood – my children are 22 and 26 and still I worry about how we spent our time together! now, interestingly enough, they worry about how they’ve spent their summers with me!
