our first “christmas calendar”

Tue December 01 2009

time to forge some new traditions, as i said.  midnight crafting struck again (well, more like 9:30pm crafting), and the bug and turkey awoke to a surprise on the wall, which bug has named the “christmas calendar”.

aiming for simplicity, and also in the throes of appreciating things for the beauty of their purpose, it’s picture hanging wire thumbtacked to the wall, and that’s exactly what it looks like.  i like this.  it also powerfully reminds me of the who’s houses when the grinch shimmies down their chimneys to steal christmas.  i like that too.

inside each little pocket is a strip of paper with holiday instructions from jessica sprague’s holidays in hand online class (i retyped them, after some printing problems here at home), which includes something to photograph each day, as well as prompts for reflecting on the holiday now, and past holidays.  each day will also have a little tag with the craft or event of the day on it (we are starting simple today, “make christmas rice krispy squares!”).  and, of course, each morning will find two little chocolates in the pocket, one for each elf that lives here.

wish us luck!
